Dan McNiel

Dan McNiel is a PTR certified tennis instructor and president of Tennis Dan in Ashburn. He has coached in the Ashburn area for over ten years and coached high school teams from Park View, Broad Run and Stonebridge. He also coaches numerous USTA Adult League teams and USA Team Tennis Junior teams. Dan was a member of the George Mason University Tennis Team and has been ranked in doubles and singles in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Dan takes pride in individual attention to each of his student's needs whether finding groups for social play or training adults and juniors for tournaments and league competition.

In 2006, Dan was named Coach of the Year at Broad Run High School and by the All-Extra Washington Post.

Apart from tennis, Dan is a racquetball enthusiast.

Albert Asiedo

Albert was born and raised in Accra, Ghana. He Started playing tennis when he was 4 years old and was coached by his dad. He was the number one ranked player in each of the respective age groups. He traveled around the continent of Africa playing ITF tournaments until he was recruited to play tennis in the United States.

He is currently attending Hampton University and playing tennis on a full schorlarship. He is also the assistant coach of the mens and womens tennis team at Hampton University. He started off this year ranked #20 in the Mid-Atlantic region and has played in many tournaments with his highlight being the NCAA Div. 1 tournament last year.

Albert has many years of teaching experience. He has taught at various tennis camps and resorts, some of which are Linda Rosensweig tennis camp in Scarsdale, NY and New England Tennis Holidays ranked the number one tennis resort in USA and Canada by tennis resorts online. He has also coached a girl to the number one ranking in the girls 12 and under division in the Mid-Aatlantic region.

Song Xayavong

Born in Laos, Suwaneeket, Songseng lived in Thailand for 4 years before coming to the U.S. at age seven. Song grew up in Roanoke Virginia and graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry and a minor Biology from Ferrum College in the Fall of 1996. He played on the Ferrum Tennis team from 1992-1996 and the soccer team from 1992-1994. Song taught tennis at the Roanoke City Park and Recreation junior camp and was the Assistant Coach for William Fleming High School men’s team in. Song is a PTR Certified Tennis Professional and is excited about joining the Tennis Dan team. He appreciates the individuality tennis offers and the focus needed to succeed. Song believes in a strong fundamental base for strokes and developing the player so they can continually improve and have fun playing tennis.

Gretchen Hannes

Gretchen has been playing tennis regularly for five years. She played on the Potomac Falls High School varsity team for three years; during her senior year she was a co-captain and played at the number three position. Gretchen has taught tennis the past two years with a tennis camp in the Cascades and Ashburn Farms. She will start her sophomore year at William and Mary in the fall, where she plays on the club tennis team. At William and Mary she is also a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, a volunteer at the local humane society, and a writer for the student newspaper.  We welcome Gretchen to the Tennis Dan team.  Gretchen will be running the Countryside summer camps and helping with camps and clinics in Ashburn as well.

Gerhard Asiedo

Gerhard Asiedu-Ofei, a brother of Albert was born and raised in Ghana. He started playing tennis when he was 6 years old. He was a member of the Ghana junior national boys 18 team where he played a series of ITF tournaments around Africa.

Prior to joining Tennis Dan, he was a head tennis instructor at the Linda Rosensweig tennis camp in Scarsdale, NY for four years. He specialized in preparing adults and kids for tournaments and other big tennis events. He also taught adult and kids clinics.

Gerhard is currently attending Wartburg University at Waverly, IA on a tennis scholarship. He is the number one singles and doubles player of the men’s varsity team. He led the team to a season high record last year.

 

Jeff Apswitch

Jeff has been playing tennis every spring, summer and winter since the 6th grade. Jeff played with Tennis Dan for many seasons both at the Ashburn Pavilion and recently at the Leesburg Racquet Club. He made the Varsity Tennis Team his freshman year at Broad Run high School and lettered his sophomore, junior and senior year. Senior year he was co-captain of the team while playing number 2 singles and number 1 doubles. Jeff plans to continue playing tennis in college at the intra-mural level at William & Mary. Jeff will be working out of Ashburn Farm, Cascades and Countryside this year.
